oversized raw-edge sweatshirt - cinnabar red

£49.50 £99.00

  • Kurt Cobain wore oversized sweatshirts in the eighties; Haider Ackermann made them high fashion for Millennials; Kanye West channeled them in Yeezy; and Fear of God, Greg Lauren and countless others have made their interpretations. Oversized sweatshirts are now definitely a classic, so we developed our own.

Our homage to both Cobain's grunge and Balenciaga's bleached Homme Sweatshirt (sans print), this version is sunwashed red, slightly ombre, on a grey base, lightly flecked with black -  it's reminiscent of cinnabar red, or at least, that was the objective. Note: as these are small-batch overdyed, special care should be taken when first washing and wearing to avoid colour transfer.

Also available: Concrete Gray, Optimist YellowNori Black

    HOW IT WAS MADE

Our Oversized Raw-Edge Sweatshirt was made by a small factory in Barcelos, Portugal, that specialises in luxury jersey items, and is used by some of the most prominent luxury brands. You can see pictures of this plant, which manufactured both the Muscle T-Shirt and the Oversized Raw-Edge Sweatshirt here.

The fabric was also sourced in Portugal. It is a heavy, 410 gm/sqm, diagonal knit, loopback American fleece. It is carbon brushed on the face for softness and dust repellent properties. It is not brushed on the inside; the warmth is provided by the weight and density of the fabric, not by brushing in pockets of air.

The sweatshirts were made in unbleached fabric, that was garment dyed to our exact specifications in a small dyehouse in the same industrial complex. You can see pictures of the vats and the dyehouse here. The fixative is good old sodium chloride, aka salt.

    SHAPE + DETAILING

This is an oversized sweatshirt, made more flattering by tailoring the rear shoulders with inside-out darting. The rear seam adds structure - sewn on the exterior, and left raw (for a grunge look, rough the threads up with your fingernail). The hem has also been left raw, flat stitched to prevent fraying, and rolls slightly.

    COMPOSITION + CARE

    100% cotton.

    Gentle machine wash cool.

    Fabric source - Portugal

    Manufactured - Portugal

    Overdyed - Germany

*Please remember, each sweatshirt was manufactured by an individual seamstress and then batch dyed. Although rigorous quality control is employed, both processes can result in slight deviations.

All our photographs are shot in natural light, no pinning, no flash, no crafty illumination. Nobody lives in a photographic studio; how the clothes look in the pictures is how they are going to look on you. But as the light changes, colours appear to change slightly too.
